The Cincinnati Bengals and the Houston Texans get the playoff party started at 4:30 p.m. ET at Reliant Stadium in a meeting that features some significant firsts.
Bengals QB Andy Dalton and Houston' s T.J. Yates are the first rookie QBs to start opposite one another in an NFL playoff game. Saturday's game is also the first time a Cincy or Houston team has been to the playoffs since 1991. As for the Texans, this is the franchise's first postseason trip.
The Texans beat the Bengals 20-19 in Week 14 in Cincinnati.
Huddle honcho Nate Davis previewed the action here, and Robert Klemko relays the action here:
4:53 pm: Bengals in the I. Benson gets two yards on a weak-side dive. Houston front four holding strong. Dalton tosses it deep to Green after play action on 2nd down. Flag thrown. Defensive pass interference. Quinn hooks Green's left arm. Ball is at the Houston 20. Good call.
4:50 pm ET: "Both rookie quarterbacks showing their postseason nerves. Let's see if they settle in." USAT's Jim Corbett.
4:49 pm: DT Fanene knocks down Yates' pass on third and long and Houston punts for 51 yards. The men Chris Myers is blocking have made consecutive big plays.
4:45 pm: Houston takes over at their own 13. 3 TEs, single back, 1 WR, play action, Yates find Johnson for a first down. Yates feels the heat of a strongside blitz on 1st down and throws an incompletion. I-left, Foster is tackled in the backfield after Geno Atkins blows up the center.
4:42 pm: The Red Rifle takes the field. Katy, Texas native gets boos and cheers. Cedric Benson single-back pitch left for two. 2TE, I-formation, single WR, AJ Green catches a curl for six yards.
4:43 pm: 3 WR, 2 RB shotgun. Benson is uncovered out of the backfield and Dalton overthrows him on third down. Could've been an enormous gain. Cincy punts.
4:41 pm: Yates overthrows Andre Johnson on a shallow cross that would've been a first down. Houston punts.
4:40 pm: Foster nearly fumbles but catches the ball on the first play. False start on Foster nulls a planned stretch run to the left. B en Tate replaces him and goes for five. A bad start for #23.
4:37 pm: The playoffs have begun with a touchback.
4:36 pm: Texans will receive the ball. Always a joy to watch them execute the wide-zone running game. O-line steps laterally instead of forward and seals D-lineman or drives him to the sideline. Houston was ranked 2nd in rushing during the reg. season.
4:34 pm: Bum Phillips, former Oilers coach, walked out of the tunnel before the team.
4:30 pm: Kickoff coming soon. USA TODAY's Jim Corbett is at the game. You can follow him on Twitter here.
4:27 pm: AJ Green, the first rookie WR to make a Pro Bowl since Anquan Boldin, revealed that he was a member of a juggling team as a kid in an interview alongside Andy Dalton with NBC. Tony Dungy calls Green a "big Marvin Harrison." High praise.
4:25 pm: We're minutes away from Bengals-Texans. A few notes: Dalton and WR AJ Green are the first rookie pair with 3,000 yards passing and 1,000 receiving. Both of these teams lost in their season finale. The Bengals are a 40-1 shot to win the Super Bowl and the Texans are a 25-1 bet in Vegas.
4:oo pm: Bengals inactives – S Taylor Mays, S Robert Sands, LB Dontay Moch, OG Otis Hudson, OT Anthony Collins, WR Armon Binns, DT Nick Hayden.
Texans inactives – QB Jeff Garcia, WR Jeff Maehl, CB Brandon Harris, S Troy Nolan, OG Thomas Austin, OT Andrew Gardner, TE Garrett Graham
